Holly Brown, LMFT

Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

Holly is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over 10 years of helping individuals and couples learn to navigate change and improve their quality of life. As a systemic therapist, Holly focuses on the relationship between self and others and the impacts of each in our daily lives and experiences. In her work with clients, Holly uses an integrative approach, utilizing a variety of therapeutic techniques and modalities to best suit the individual needs of each person. Holly begins her work focusing on connections and the responses that either keep people stuck or propel them forward. She then uses techniques from various approaches to elicit change and move people toward their goals. Some methods she uses include Solution Focused Therapy, Attachment Based Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, The Gottman Method for couples, and more.

Holly believes therapy is a collaborative process between she and her clients and that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation for meaningful change. Holly is particularly skilled in connecting with clients and meeting them where they are. She is able to work with individuals who struggle to know what they are wanting from their time in therapy as well as those who approach their counseling with a laser focus on their goals. Holly enjoys clients who are open to exploring their lives and being curious. She often works with individuals who have been resistant to therapy or who have had a negative experience with therapy in the past. It’s important to Holly that her clients leave the session feeling heard, understood, and supported.

In session, Holly is curious and gentle, making sure to attune to her client’s wants and needs. She can also be more directive and challenge her clients when needed. Holly likes to show up as herself in session, which is very encouraging and prone to finding humor. She has experience in treating a variety of issues, including relationship distress and dysfunction, poor communication, unhealthy and unhelpful patterns and behaviors, trauma, mood disorders, stress management, anger management, intimate partner violence, and periods of life transition.

Holly graduated with her BS in Psychology from the University of Georgia before earning her Masters of Family Therapy at Mercer University. Before joining Hirt Psychology, Holly worked in crisis stabilization, substance abuse detoxification, college counseling, and community mental health. In addition to her work with clients here, Holly also works as a clinician for the United States Marine Corps. In her free time, Holly enjoys traveling, exploring the garden section of every store, and spending time with family, friends, and her dogs.

Holly primarily provides virtual sessions and is available evenings and weekends. She is licensed in both Georgia and South Carolina.
